What it does

Podman is a daemonless container engine that's fully OCI-compatible and largely drop-in compatible with Docker commands. It runs rootless by default (more secure), supports pods natively (like Kubernetes pods), and generates Kubernetes YAML from running containers.

Examples
podman ps -aList all containers (same syntax as docker ps) · explain & risk-check →
podman run -it --rm ubuntu bashRun Ubuntu container interactively · explain & risk-check →
podman generate kube mypod > pod.yamlGenerate Kubernetes YAML from running container · explain & risk-check →
podman play kube pod.yamlRun Kubernetes YAML with podman · explain & risk-check →
podman system dfShow disk usage by containers, images, volumes · explain & risk-check →
Pro tip

Use `podman generate kube container_name` to convert a working local container to Kubernetes YAML — faster than writing manifests from scratch when prototyping.
