What it does

Velero backs up Kubernetes cluster state and persistent volume data to object storage (S3, GCS, Azure Blob). Enables disaster recovery, cluster migration, and namespace-level restore. Backups include all K8s objects and optionally PV snapshots.

Examples
velero backup create my-backup --include-namespaces productionBackup a specific namespace · explain & risk-check →
velero backup getList all backups and their status · explain & risk-check →
velero backup describe my-backup --detailsDetailed backup contents and status · explain & risk-check →
velero restore create --from-backup my-backupRestore from a backup · explain & risk-check →
velero schedule create daily-backup --schedule='0 2 * * *' --include-namespaces productionSchedule daily backups · explain & risk-check →
Pro tip

Always test restores, not just backups. Schedule a monthly `velero restore create --from-backup latest --include-namespaces test` in a non-prod cluster to verify backup integrity.
